Aberdeen Highland Games

Held each year on the first Saturday in July, the Aberdeen Highland Games have become Aberdeen's most spectacular event, drawing thousands of people to the township every year to enjoy the festivities.
The Games begin with a parade of bands, clan representatives and others that leads into the Massed Band Salute and Chieftain's Address that officially opens the day. Throughout the day there is

• Highland and Country Dancing,
• Pipe Band displays,
• Strong Man events with the Kilted Warriors
• Novelty events including, egg tosses, three-legged races, and the famed Kilted Dash.
• Stalls around the inside of the fence on the Harrison Oval selling all manner of Scottish heirlooms and souvenirs, clothing and garb,
• Clan societies with clan and family detail.
• Community Groups getting messages out to the public.
• A Food Court area with food and beverage outlets.

At the completion of the Games the New South Wales Pipe Band Association oversee the running of a Quintet Competition for bands at the Aberdeen RSL Club.

A traditional Ceilidh is held in the evening following the games. This includes the piping in and address to the haggis as well as a two-course meal.

The Games is a community event seeking to give back to the local community and Upper Hunter region. The spirit of the Games is focused on the community and sharing the region’s Scottish heritage. As the event continues to grow it has now classified as a Tier One event for the Upper Hunter Shire.
